Search engine optimization [SEO] is a technique of optimizing your website and its contents to rank higher in search engines like Google and Bing.

It is a very important thing you should know before you think about getting organic traffic from Google. Without SEO you just can’t rank on any Search Engine. You should have some SEO knowledge before you start following the strategy I am going to tell you.

SEO consists of the following things:

  • Quality of content
  • Title and meta description
  • Structure of Permalinks
  • Mobile Usability
  • Readability of an article
  • Backlinks
  • Page speed
  • Security of a website

Mainly, two types of SEO are there.

On-page SEO

On-page SEO is the optimization of the contents of a post like a title, meta-description, text, images, etc. for search engines.

This part is very important for new webmasters to know as it is easier to learn and apply.

If you are using WordPress to manage your website, use the Yoast SEO plugin. This plugin will guide you on on-page SEO.

Always use a theme that is mobile responsible as mobile searches are higher than desktop searches. Use some images and videos [if possible] to enhance user engagement and increase dwell time.

SEO is not about neglecting user experience [UX]. Google never ranks any website that gives a bad user experience. UX is determined by conversion rate, bounce rate, dwell time and click-through rate.

Make title and meta description attractive and unique that encourages people to click so that it increases click-through rate and traffic.

Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO is all about increasing the site’s authority by building links. It is equally important as on-page SEO but it is harder to do especially if you are a beginner and your website is new. So focus on writing quality content and on-page SEO in the first three months.

After 3 months you can start making some backlinks for higher rankings and beat the competition.

Suggestion for picking up a niche

Always choose a niche that you are interested in. For example, if you like riding motorcycles choose motorcycles as your niche. Because, as you like this topic, it is obvious that you already have some knowledge about it. This helps to save most of your time researching topics and content. The important thing is you will enjoy writing and researching topics under this niche.

If you choose a niche based on profit but you are not interested in it, you probably quit blogging.

Submitting site to Google Search Console

Google Search Console [formerly Google Webmasters Tool] is a free tool given by Google that helps webmasters to analyze their performance in Google like your position for a keyword, clicks and impressions on the pages, click-through rate, keywords you are ranking for and many more.

Google Search Console

It also helps you find and fix different errors like Google indexer and crawler faced during indexing and crawling. Imagine, you worked hard to write a 3000+ words post but it never indexed in Google because Google detects some error while indexing. So, it is necessary to sign up for Google Search Console and submit your website.

Submitting sitemap in Google Search Console

The sitemap includes all URLs a website contains. It helps Google to index and crawl new pages faster.

Many plugins are available out there like Yoast SEO that generates a sitemap of your website. Go to Google Search Console and in the sitemap menu add sitemap_index.xml as a new sitemap.

Increase organic traffic in two easy steps

Now, I am going to tell you the best tactics you can follow to get ranked in Google and start getting organic traffic. Be committed to following these for just 3 months.

  1. Writing, and
  2. Promoting

Write at least two quality post per week

If you really want to be successful in blogging, commit to writing at least two high-quality posts every week. Don’t just write about anything but do some research and find keywords related to your niche.

You can’t beat the high competition with your low authoritative website if you go for a high competitive keyword. There are already many popular sites that are ranked in Google for those keywords. So always choose a keyword with low competition that has high search volume.

Writing two articles a week doesn’t mean writing useless posts that don’t add any value to users. The only obvious thing to understand is to focus on quality, not on quantity. Keep in mind that the length of your articles should be at least 2,000 words long. This is not the exact post length you should write but Google always prefers comprehensive posts rather than short ones.

Don’t waste time checking analytics, invest time writing and promoting posts. Check analytics only once a week and don’t get demotivated with the page views. No blog is going to get huge traffic in just a few days of starting the blog. Work hard, have faith and patience; you will surely get success one day.

I’ve written a long descriptive article on writing an optimized blog post that easily ranks on Google. It’s worth checking for better results.

If you search for the word “motorbike” you can see its search volume is between 100K and 1M which is very high but the competition is also higher. Scroll down and you would see the keyword “autotrader motorcycle” which has low competition with quite good search volumes. So you can choose this keyword to write about.

Using Google Keyword Planner

Google Trends is another tool by Google to check the search volumes of a keyword for a particular country or city or worldwide, in the difference of a week.

Writing a post daily is very important at the beginning when you don’t have enough content on the website. To build trust with Google you should consistently publish articles. Those articles should be in-depth and problem solving that add some value to the user. At least write articles of 1500+ words.

Promote your contents

Use social media and community forums to increase traffic to your website so that Google can analyze the response from those people.

Promoting content doesn’t mean spamming. Don’t just continuously share posts in comments and groups. Facebook will ban your website for this if you repeatedly spam. Instead, solve the problems of people and recommend your post.

Join Facebook groups and answer the queries people ask and refer them to your post. Answer daily 5 questions in Facebook groups. Don’t do more.

Use Pinterest to drive more traffic. Make attractive images using Photoshop or Canvas for a post and pin those in Pinterest.

Quora is another important platform you can use to promote your content and derive referral traffic to your website which later helps you to get organic traffic from Google after ranking in search results.

Search for a query related to your post in Quora and answer only 5 people in a genuine way with the intention to solve their problem and leave your post URL at the last.

On Google, search a question related to your post and find a forum. Answer in at least 5 different forums, similarly as Quora. Do these things after publishing your post.

If you follow these two easy and simple strategies correspondingly with SEO I guarantee you will be ranked in Google and get tons of organic traffic.

I hope this was helpful.
